Project Summary

This project is about restoring an AUTOart Bugatti Veyron diecast model I found second-hand for $80. I believe models like this should not end up as scrap or parts donors. Every piece deserves a second life, especially when it represents such an iconic car. Since I create restoration content for YouTube, I added some weathering to support the opening story and visual presentation. However, the real damage and missing parts are authentic, and I will show them in detail in my project log. The project is inspired by Bugatti’s “Golden Era” celebration at Monterey Car Week 2023. While that event focused on new Bugatti creations, I believe the Veyron is one of the strongest symbols of Bugatti’s modern golden era. It was the car that changed what a hypercar could be, and this AUTOart model deserves to be restored, not forgotten. My goal is to restore and customize this model into a clean cinematic showcase build, using a junkyard-style diorama to tell the story of where it started.

I Need Your Help

I spent the evening mixing different color combinations based on the Kaleido Color Lab suggestions using the paints I already have. Now I'm stuck between these two.

To make it even harder, both reference photos show the same interior, but the color looks completely different depending on the lighting.

So instead of chasing the "perfect" color, I'm going with the one that feels right.

Now it's your turn.

Which one would you choose for this Bugatti?
---> Option A
---> Option B

Don't just comment A or B , tell me why. I'd really love to hear your thoughts, and your feedback might actually help me make the final decision.

Thanks so much for following the project and taking the time to help. It really means a lot!

Update 8: Interior Cleaning & Inspection

This week was dedicated to the interior. I thought it would mostly be a preparation stage, but it quickly turned into a much bigger task than expected.

The first step was removing all the dirt, dust, old paint, and residue from every interior part. It was a slow process, but now every piece has been thoroughly cleaned and is finally ready for primer.

As the interior came apart, the inspection revealed several hidden problems. The passenger seat has damage that will need to be repaired. The steering column had been heavily covered in glue from a previous repair attempt, and the steering wheel turned out to be completely broken. None of these issues were obvious before disassembly, but they all have to be addressed before the model can move forward.

I also completed and test-fitted the updated artwork that now continues seamlessly from the door into the rear quarter panel. This new composition feels much more balanced and better supports the story I want the design to tell.

Progress isn't always about visible changes. Sometimes it's about uncovering problems, fixing what others overlooked, and building a solid foundation for everything that comes next. The interior is finally ready for its next chapter.

Update 7: Before the Next Chapter

I fully treated the inner and hidden surfaces of the body with black primer, so the model is now almost at its final visual state.

During a dry fit of the doors with the graphics and the adjacent panel, I realized the composition felt like something was missing. So I decided to refine it. I extended the decal beyond the door line, and on the next panel the artwork will fade into a black gradient to keep the flow and depth consistent.

The layout is now fully finalized. The door corners have been repainted and are ready for the final decal and gradient application.

In the middle of next week I’m starting a new chapter of the project, the interior work.

In the next update I want to show a fully completed body and a finished interior. That’s where the project will really start coming together as a complete story.

Thanks for the support. Likes and comments genuinely help push the project forward. And if you have any ideas on details you’d like to see, feel free to share them.

Update 6.1: Clear Coat Stage

Friends, as promised, here’s the clear coat stage.

For this process, my main ally is the Gaahleri Premium Series Mobius TG 0.5 mm. Combined with a properly thinned clear coat and low air pressure, it delivers a smooth, even finish while preserving every detail.

At the end of the video, we'll also do a quick test fit of the body parts. For the first time, the overall silhouette of the Bugatti really starts to come together.

Thank you for following this journey. Every like, comment, and share motivates me to create even more cinematic macro shots and detailed updates.

Stay tuned, there’s much more to come.

Update 6: Paint Process & New Materials

This week’s update is focused on the painting stage of the Bugatti Veyron build.

In the video, I show the painting process, the application of the champagne gold and metallic black finish, and also the unpacking of my new paints from Kaleido Colorworks. These new materials will be important not only for this project, but also for future builds.

The body has finally received its main color direction, and the Veyron is starting to look much closer to the vision I had at the beginning of this journey.

At the beginning of next week, I will also share a separate video dedicated to the polishing process. The clear coat needs time, patience, and careful finishing before the body can fully reveal its final depth and shine.

However, the bodywork is not finished yet. There are still many hidden and internal areas that need attention, including inner panels, difficult-to-reach cavities, and smaller details that are easy to overlook but important for the final result.

Update 5: Paintwork in Progress

After completing the body preparation, I finally moved on to the color stage. The champagne gold tone from Kaleido Colorworks that I selected in previous updates is now on the model, along with the custom Bugatti-inspired graphics.

My original goal for this week was to complete the entire paint process, including decals, clear coat, polishing, and the final finish. I managed to complete almost everything on schedule. The decals have been applied, the clear coat is down, and the body is currently curing.

The only remaining step is the final polishing process. Rather than splitting the paintwork into multiple incomplete updates, I decided to finish the entire process properly and present it as one complete chapter of the build.

For that reason, next week's update will include a dedicated video covering the full painting process, decal application, clear coating, and final polishing results.

The transformation is already dramatic compared to the abandoned condition shown in earlier updates, and I'm excited to reveal the finished bodywork very soon.

The Veyron is no longer abandoned. It's finally becoming the car I imagined at the beginning of this journey.

Stay tuned.

Update 4: From Inspiration to Vision

This week was less about restoration and more about defining the final direction of the project. One of my biggest sources of inspiration was Bugatti's Chiron Golden Era. I was fascinated by the way Bugatti combined art, history, and automotive design into a single masterpiece. The artwork itself is inspired by Bugatti's Golden Era design language. Just like the original concept created by Bugatti, the illustrations tell the story of two defining chapters in the brand's history. One side celebrates Bugatti's heritage, featuring references to the company's early years, legendary cars, and the vision of Ettore Bugatti. The opposite side focuses on the modern era, highlighting the W16 generation and the engineering achievements that led to cars such as the Veyron and Chiron. As I worked on the visualizations, I made an important discovery. While the Chiron Golden Era transitions from black into gold, the Veyron looked far more balanced with the gradient reversed. The final design will flow from champagne gold at the front into deep metallic black at the rear. This week I also completed the custom decal artwork that will soon be printed and applied to the model. Seeing the concept move from sketches and ideas to a finished design makes the project feel much more real. Another exciting milestone this week was finally receiving my Kaleido paint order. The package included both metal colors and matte base paints that will be used during the build. After testing several metallic gold shades, Champagne Gold from Kaleido quickly became my favorite. Its warm and refined tone felt like the perfect choice for bringing this vision to life. The next update will move from planning to execution. The body color, decals, clear coat, and final finish will finally come together as the vision starts becoming reality. See you in the next update.

Update 3: Priming, Mistakes & Surface Prep

Hello friends! The third update on my Bugatti Veyron project is all about preparing the body for paint. At first glance, priming seems like a straightforward step, but it's also one of the easiest stages to mess up. During this process, I made two mistakes: I didn't filter part of the primer before pouring it into the airbrush, and I added a bit too much thinner. As a result, the airbrush sprayed small debris onto some of the parts, leaving noticeable imperfections in the surface. Rather than accepting the flaws, I decided to fix everything properly. The defective primer coat was carefully sanded with 1000-grit sandpaper until all imperfections were removed. The parts were then primed again, this time with properly prepared material. After the primer had fully cured, I finished the surface with 2500-grit sandpaper to achieve a smooth finish ready for paint. The body is finally ready for the next stage of the project.

Update 2: Body Prep

Hey friends! In this update, I want to share one of the most careful and time consuming stages of the Bugatti Veyron build, preparing the body for primer. Along the way, I also found a few parts that will need to be recreated from scratch. Overall, the Veyron’s shapes are pretty simple, but there were still some tricky hard to reach areas... Around 16 hours of work stayed behind the scenes, but the body is finally starting to come back to life. In the next update, we’ll start choosing the base, colors, and shades for the project, and also begin designing our own custom decals.
