It was a long and challenging project that required a lot of precision, patience, and perseverance. But at the same time, it was an incredible experience to spend so much time with such a wonderful model and a character who truly challenged me and pushed me to learn new things in order to do the paint job justice.
Thank you, Arthur! 🤠

There’s something incredibly satisfying - and a little nerve-wracking - about starting to paint the final details of a large project.
Despite Arthur not having that much exposed skin, painting it took quite a lot of time. As for his clothing, the most challenging part was his shirt, which required me to preserve its texture while keeping the lines of the suspenders clean and even.
I hope I managed to do a better job with the painting than I did with my skills at filming the process. 😅 Unfortunately, I can no longer attach the video of the process from the deleted post.

My favorite part of any model like this is, of course, the horses!
I spent a long time deciding which coat color to choose for Arthur’s battle companion, especially considering the huge variety of horse coats in the game - not to mention the endless variety in real life. In the end, I decided to stay close to the original render provided by the STL creator and went with a bay horse with a blaze on her face.
Unfortunately, I got so carried away with the painting process that I didn’t notice that some important parts of the painting process were out of the camera’s view. :(
In any case, I’m very happy with the result. Looking at it again after some time, I can already see a couple of things I would approach differently or improve, but overall I’m really pleased with how she turned out.
The most challenging part was capturing the variety of tones found in bay horses - balancing warm and cool shades to give the coat some depth and variation, while avoiding a flat, plastic-looking appearance.

The rest of the base is painted in much the same way: a base coat, some gradient transitions where needed, Contrast paints and shadows, followed by highlights.
At this point, it’s mostly just meditation and working with a brush.
In my opinion, the most challenging part is simply choosing colors that work well together and make the whole piece feel cohesive.

So, the first stage of painting Arthur will be working on the base. I’ve decided to split it into two parts because the base is quite large, and working on it took a fair amount of time, even though the process itself wasn’t particularly difficult.
To begin with, I simply apply the base colors for the ground and rocks using an airbrush. I don’t worry about creating a precise boundary between the rocks and the ground, as it will be much easier to refine those areas with a brush later.
Next, I add some shadows to the deeper areas of the rocks, focusing on the recesses and the joints between them. I’m using warm brown tones because, in my vision, our Arthur Morgan is riding somewhere through the lands around Blackwater.
After that, I start toning the rocks and the ground using Contrast paints. I’m not worried about the surface looking too dark at this stage, because I’ll be bringing the highlights back later with drybrushing.
The Contrast paints help bring out the uneven texture of the rocks, while the lighter drybrush will pick out all the raised edges and irregularities.

This is the first stage of my Arthur Morgan project, thanks for STL to Bulkamancers team
I started by preparing all the printed parts for painting. I assembled and glued the main components, carefully aligned the pieces, sanded the surfaces and filled the seams and imperfections.
At this stage, my main goal was to create a clean and solid foundation for the paintwork. On a large miniature like this, even small gaps, seams or surface imperfections can become very noticeable once the model is primed and painted, so I took my time with the preparation.
With the main assembly complete and the surfaces cleaned up, the model is now ready for the next stage: priming and painting.
This is just the beginning - I’m looking forward to bringing Arthur and his story to life step by step.
