Well here we are, the end of an awesome project and the end came around SOOOO quickly! One minute there were weeks left then all of a sudden I'm painting 15-20 hours straight every day to try and get it done lol. That extra week Gaahleri kindly gave us did me a huge favour as I was able to polish some bits that were a little rushed towards the end.
So this is my final post. This is a 1/6th scale figure by CA3D Studios on patreon. I printed it myself on my Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra using Elegoo ABS-Like resin. I painted it using a mixture of paints from various brands but a vast majority of it was done with Kaleido paints. I used both my Gaahleri Mobius .2 and my Iwata Custom Micron airbrushes as well as plenty of hairybrush action. Using a combination of wash effects and drybrushing I used the texture of the model to create loads of textures and details. The example render from CA3D Studios has her very futuristic looking with a clean suit and tech. I wanted to go in the opposite direction and make her look like she roams the desert with her alien companion, a kind of bounty hunter/industrial worker type... so I wanted her armour and stuff to look pretty banged up. Like she doesnt really look after it and it's seen some serious action. So for this I added loads of rust effects and chipped paint using true metallic paints and various browns and oranges.
I used matt, satin and gloss varnishes on different places to add to the effects. For example, her eyes and lips are gloss, her flesh is matt and her armour and alien companion are done in satin to add a slight sheen.

Hey all... so the hack has done me a favour. I've been painting solid for 2 days straight to get this finished before the deadline and some bits ended up a little rushed and other bits I want to tweak or add more colour to but there just wasnt time. Then the hacker came along and granted us all another week! So this isnt finished... now I have the time to do the tweaks I wanted to do. Soooo more soon :)

Hey all. Hope all is going well with your projects. Here's a quick video update for you. I'm currently busy on that big green belt. Trying to make it look like military green canvas like they make Alice Packs out of. Next will be those grenade things on her upper thigh then I can get cracking with some more flesh tones... 'cos everyone loves some flesh tones hehe.
TTFN, Svee ;)

Hey all. Hope all is going well with your projects. I've been working on Kyla's thighs and hips this week. I may add some more tweaks later on, but its time to leave this bit alone and move on to her torso.. oh and that bomb/grenade belt things on her thigh. I think those yellowish socks I was worried about being too bright are ok now I've got the rest of her legs done. They dont stand out as much now I've got the flesh tones in there. Right, must crack on... more on this either tomorrow or Sunday ;)

Hey all. Got a nice chunk done this week. Kyla is all done from the knees down. I've finished all the rust and paint chips on her suit, now I'm starting on her thighs. I'm not sure if I like the cream colour leggings that poke up from under the mechanical suit... they might be a bit too bright and too distracting. I'll leave them for now but I might end up repainting these in something darker. Anyway, hope you all had a great week on your projects and thanks for all the likes and comments. More soon...

Hey all, so under the heading of "Trying to update more than once a week on here" here is a little one. I finished the "clean" paint job on the legs but I want her to have a busted 'n rusted look like her equipment isnt very well maintained and has been through a lot. So lots of chipped paint, rust, dirt... crustiness etc. On one of the pics you can see my first pass on the "crusties". Right leg is clean, left leg is crusty level 1. Crusty level 2 is currently under way. I'll update when I have something interesting to show.
Cheers, Svee.

Week 13 draws to a close and that deadline is looming even closer now. I've been busy getting the base colours and basic shadows applied to Kyla's legs. There is a lot of detail in this sculpt so its taken a little while. Once I've got the basic colours down (as if her suit was brand new and clean) I can come in with the weathering and battle damage/dirt. I'm hoping to do more than one update a week between now and the end of the contest so keep your eyes peeled as I'll be spending every spare moment I've got on this from now on to get it finished in time. As always thank you so much for all the likes and comments. More soon ;)

Hey all. Another week draws to a close and it's becoming very clear to me that I am running out of time quickly on this lol. Time to pull my finger out and get this done! I had a day off today so I put all my other projects to one side and just went hell for leather on this little guy. Using various paints from golden yellow, sepia's orangey browns washes, inks, metallics, you name it. I've now completed the little alien companion dude's backpack with rust and weathered paint effects and an glowing energy thingy (thats the technical term) like his backpack is powered by something. So out little alien companion is now totally finished. I'm now cracking on with the main character, Kyla. More very soon and thanks for all your comments and likes, means a lot :)

Hey all. Not a lot to show for this week. Work has had me rushed off my feet so I have had literally no time to work on this at all. Here's a close up of some of the details though. My diary is a bit quieter this week so I'll actually be able to work on this some more. In the mean time thank you so much for all the follows and comments. I'll have something interesting to show you all next week, promise :)

Wow, week 10 already. Time is flying with this contest. This week I got started on the little alien dude's harness and backpack. I wanted to have a military look to it so I chose the typical green for the fabric/padded parts. This was done using a base of Kaleido Artillery Green which was then shaded with a 50/50 mix of artillery Green and Translucent Clear Amber. Then to pick out the little hexagon texture that is sculpted into the surface I lightly drybrushed some Kaleido Buff over the top. I also painted some silver parts using Darkstar miniature paints Pewter. The straps that go around him were just Kaleido black primer with some of the Pewter lightly brushed on the corners and raised areas to look like chipped paint and scratches on the metal buckles. Thanks for all your likes and comments. See you next week ;)
