Ghost in the Shell — Final Submission

I’m incredibly happy to finally share my finished project!

Taking part in this event has been such a special experience for me. I loved the feeling of working on my own figure while knowing that so many other artists were creating, experimenting, struggling with difficult parts, sharing progress, and slowly bringing their own ideas to life at the same time. It really made the whole process feel like something bigger than just another personal project.

This build turned into a real challenge for me in the best possible way. There were so many moments when I had to stop, rethink something, repaint a part, try a different technique, or simply trust the process and keep going. Some parts took much longer than I expected, and a few ideas changed completely along the way, but every problem also pushed me to learn something new.

One of the biggest experiments for me was lighting. I had never incorporated illumination into one of my figures before, so designing the base around it and seeing the whole piece come alive with the lights turned on was an incredibly satisfying moment. It added exactly the atmosphere I wanted and helped connect the character, the base, and the environment into one complete scene.

I also experimented a lot with the painting itself. I wanted the clean white suit, metallic elements, glowing details, hair, skin, and industrial base to feel like parts of the same world without everything blending together. Finding that balance was probably one of the most interesting parts of the project. I spent a lot of time adjusting colors, contrast, finishes, reflections, and small details until everything finally started to look the way I had imagined it.

And that is probably what makes me happiest about the finished piece: it actually looks like the image I had in my head when I started.

That doesn’t happen with every project. Sometimes an idea changes so much during the process that the final result becomes something completely different. But this time, when I finally assembled everything, turned on the lights, and looked at the finished figure, I had this wonderful feeling of: “Yes. This is it.”

I’m genuinely proud of what I created.

Not because every tiny detail is perfect, but because I can see how much work, experimentation, patience, and personal growth went into it. I tried things I had never tried before, pushed myself outside of my usual comfort zone, and finished something that felt ambitious when I first started.

This project reminded me how much I love this hobby — not only the final result, but the entire process of turning an idea into something physical piece by piece.

I’m also incredibly grateful that I had the opportunity to participate in this event and create alongside so many talented people. Seeing everyone’s progress and completely different interpretations has been inspiring from beginning to end.

Thank you so much for this experience, and thank you to everyone who followed the build, supported me, commented on my progress, or simply watched this project slowly come together.

After all the sanding, priming, painting, repainting, experimenting, assembling, and problem-solving… she is finally finished.

And I honestly couldn’t be happier with how she turned out. ♡

My boyfriend also helped me add lighting to the base! For now, it’s just painted in a basic grey with a silver drybrush.

These hair pieces have been such a journey. I repainted them so many times, and somehow ended up with this more graphic, stylized look. I still can’t decide whether I actually like it or not 😅

Applied the base colors with an airbrush

White took quite a bit of work — I think it might be the hardest color to paint.

Finally Primed!

Sanding was such a boring and messy stage. I had to prime and re-sand everything several times (you can actually see the process in the photos 😅). But now all the parts are finally primed, and I’ve even started adding some skin tones!

She’s finally standing!

Oh, finally — she’s printed and actually standing!!
This was way harder than I expected and took much longer than I thought. It’s been a while since my last update, so here’s a quick catch-up on how we got here!

Next up — sanding!

Studying environmental mood, colors, and atmosphere for the Ghost in the Shell project. Totally serious artistic process. Definitely not just wandering around Thailand.

Nothing too exciting yet — currently preparing the model for printing, testing possible lighting placement, and figuring out where the magnets will go.

Biography

Hi! I’m re-l.log, a hobbyist painter focused mainly on anime garage kits and sci-fi inspired character pieces. I’m still relatively new to the hobby, but I love experimenting with atmosphere, lighting, color harmony, and presentation. Most of my work is centered around painting and finishing rather than heavy kitbashing or engineering. I’m especially inspired by cyberpunk aesthetics, Ghost in the Shell, Evangelion, and cinematic sci-fi moods. I also enjoy building Gunpla and exploring ways to combine painting with LEDs and display design. Through GWCC, I want to challenge myself, improve my workflow, and fully develop a large atmospheric sci-fi project from start to finish.
