Update #5 – Prepwork Never Ends 😄

Hello friends and community!

This week was once again heavily focused on preparation work. Even though it might not be the most exciting part of a project, it is often what separates a good result from a great one.

I spent a lot of time working on the back side of the cabinet, filling numerous holes and imperfections and smoothing out the surfaces. There is still quite a bit of work left to do, and it is definitely not at a stage where I would consider it ready for primer yet. More filling, sanding, and refining will be necessary before I am satisfied with the result.

On the more exciting side, I was able to finish preparing the chessboard and the small table it sits on. All support marks were carefully removed, and the surfaces were refined with fine sanding to ensure a clean finish.

Afterwards, I primed the parts using Kaleido Primer Black through my Premium Series GHPM-Mobius TG 0.5mm Airbrush. Once the primer had dried, I carefully masked off the edges to protect certain areas from overspray. For the wood sections, I want to work from a black base coat, so it was important to keep those areas protected while painting the chessboard.

Next, I applied Kaleido Acrylic K045 Buff across the entire chessboard surface. This will serve as the foundation for the upcoming paintwork. For now, I’m letting everything cure and harden overnight before moving on to the next step.

Tomorrow, I plan to start painting the individual chessboard squares by hand. This is one of those stages where patience and precision are absolutely critical. Choosing the right brushes, maintaining the correct paint consistency, and working carefully to keep all the squares straight and evenly sized will make a huge difference in the final appearance.

For now, I want the paint and primer to fully cure before touching it again. Sometimes the best thing you can do for a project is simply give the materials enough time to harden properly.

Hopefully, by next week’s update, I’ll be able to show you the finished chessboard and take you through the process of how it came together.

That’s it for this week’s update!

I’ll see you all next week, and as always, if you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments.

Peace out!

At this point I’m starting to believe the real GWCC challenge is just sanding and filling things until you lose your mind. 😂 But that prep work is definitely paying off!
