Update #7 – Leather Makes the Difference! 🪑✨
Hello friends and community!
This week, I started working on one of my favorite parts of the project: the leather office chair. Pieces like this are always a lot of fun because they offer so many opportunities to create depth, texture, and realism.
As always, I started by priming the entire piece with Kaleido Primer Matte Black, applied using my Premium Series GHPM-Mobius TG 0.5mm Airbrush. A smooth and even primer coat is the foundation for everything that follows.
Once the primer had cured, I switched to my Iwata Kustom CS and sprayed the entire chair with Grim Brown as the base color. From there, I gradually started building the highlights by spraying Mahogany Brown, followed by a mix of Mahogany Brown and Light Brown to create brighter areas and add more depth to the leather.
Using that same color mixture, I carefully painted scratches, worn edges, and areas where the leather would naturally show signs of use. These subtle imperfections help tell the story of the piece and make the material feel much more believable.
To really bring out the leather texture, I switched to my Iwata Micron Takumi. Using Kaleido Translucent Black and Kaleido Translucent Brown, I carefully emphasized the folds and creases, adding contrast and giving the upholstery much more depth and definition without overpowering the previous paintwork.
To finish the chair, I sealed everything with Mr. Hobby Super Clear Semi-Gloss. This final coat gives the leather that slightly shiny, worn look that real leather develops over time—just enough sheen to make it feel authentic without looking overly glossy.
I’m really happy with how the leather turned out so far. Next week, I’ll move on to the chair frame and continue bringing this part of the scene to life.
That’s it for this week’s update!
I’ll see you all next week, and as always, if you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments.
Peace out!

Okay, that leather is ridiculously convincing. 😂 The scratches, folds and slightly worn finish make a huge difference – looks more like a real old leather chair than painted resin. Great work, mate!
