Update #1 – Preparation

Hello friends, hello community!
Here is the first update on my CA3D Cyclops project, and today it’s all about preparation work. One of the most important steps before painting is properly cleaning and preparing every single part. As you can see in the example pictures, all support marks and imperfections need to be carefully removed. I personally place a huge amount of importance on this stage because it is something many people tend to underestimate or rush through. Even creators with larger audiences sometimes work a little too rough in this area, and once you zoom into the pictures or see the project in real life, small imperfections, pinholes, or surface damage become visible very quickly. That’s why I believe preparation is absolutely essential if you want to achieve the highest possible quality level. Another very important aspect is understanding the material and surface structure of each individual part. You always have to think carefully about where the piece belongs and what kind of texture it is supposed to represent. Surface details should never be destroyed during sanding. Depending on the material, the approach has to change completely. For example, surfaces that are meant to look like brushed aluminum or polished metal need to be absolutely smooth and clean, because metallic paints tend to reveal imperfections even more than regular colors. Tiny scratches, dents, or uneven areas become much more visible once metallic tones are applied, which is why preparation work is especially critical for those parts. I personally invest a lot of time into this process. Every part is carefully sanded using different tools and materials such as sanding sticks, sandpaper with various grits, rotary tools like a Dremel, and other precision tools depending on the surface and detail level. After all the sanding and cleanup work is done, I wash every piece in a soap bath to remove dust, residue, and oils before letting everything dry completely. A clean surface is extremely important before moving on to the next stages of the project. Preparation may not be the most exciting part of a statue project, but in my opinion, it is one of the most important foundations for a high-end final result. Cheers, see you next Week

Well… looking at where this project is now, I think it’s safe to say the games definitely began. 😂 What a journey already, mate – and what a transformation from that pile of resin!
