The Paint Process starts
This week was all about laying down the foundational layers and building tonal depth before the overall Dark Sea Blue topcoat goes on. I started with a smooth base coat of Mr. Finishing Surfacer 1500 Gray to double-check my seams, followed by Mr. Finishing Surfacer 1500 Black to lightly build up a pre-shade along the structural lines and panel recesses. To create realistic sun-fading beneath the final color, I started mottling with AK Real Colors Intermediate Blue, which I lightened by about 50% using a light gray instead of pure white to avoid a dead, chalky finish and keep the color looking naturally scaled. Finally, I laid down AK Real Colors Aluminium specifically over the high-traffic wing root walkways to establish the bare metal core for the upcoming hairspray chipping passes, setting everything up perfectly for the main blue finish next week.

Andre du Plessis76 days agoThat really looks good! I have a 1:32 Corsair that I picked up, ready built but scrap, that I want to restore some time. A nice subject.
