Update #11 – A Busy Week Outside the Workshop!
Hello friends and community!
I hope you’re all doing well!
This week was a really busy one, both inside and outside the workshop. We had a wedding of some good friends, as well as two birthday parties, so unfortunately there wasn’t nearly as much time for the Cyclops project as I would have liked.
Nevertheless, I managed to make some progress on the books for the cabinet. I started by sorting them into different color groups to create a more interesting and natural-looking arrangement inside the cabinet. I then primed all of the books in black and started building up the base colors using different Kaleido colors.
Instead of simply using the colors straight from the bottle, I mixed several tones together and sprayed them very thinly. My goal was to deliberately reduce the saturation and create much more muted colors that fit into the overall desaturated atmosphere of the project. The books should add variation and visual interest without becoming too colorful or distracting from the main character and the glowing visor.
The next step will be to take those larger color groups and break them down even further using a brush. I’ll be creating smaller groups of books within each color family and then start adding individual details to the book spines by hand.
There is still a lot of detail work to come, and that’s where the books should really start to come alive. I’ll show you more of that in next week’s update, so stay tuned!
That’s it for this week’s update!
I’ll see you all next week, and as always, if you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments.
Peace out!

Wedding, two birthdays and you STILL managed to make progress? 😂 I think that officially counts as a productive week. Looking forward to seeing all those tiny books finished!
