Update #13 – What Picture Would Cyclops Have on His Cabinet?
Hello friends and community!
This week’s update is coming a little earlier than usual, as you can probably see. 😄
One of the smaller details I’ve been thinking about for quite a while was the little picture frame built into the cabinet. I’ve seen quite a few people simply fill and cover this area because it sits behind the chair and is barely visible once the statue is assembled. But honestly, I didn’t want to do that. Even if something is barely visible, I still think these little details can make a project feel much more personal and complete.
The question was: What kind of picture would Cyclops actually have on his cabinet?
At first, I thought about doing something completely different—maybe even painting something in a Bob Ross style just for fun. 😄 But after thinking about it for a while, I decided that a little X-Men Easter egg would be much more fitting.
So I started looking through different comic references and eventually came across the idea of Cyclops and Jean Grey. The thought of having a picture representing their wedding felt like the perfect little personal touch for the scene.
I found a suitable comic image, scaled it down to the exact size I needed, and printed it onto photo paper. For the frame itself, I first primed everything in black. I then painted the passe-partout—the white border around the picture—using an off-white tone with some subtle Kaleido K045 Buffvariation to give it a slightly aged and less sterile appearance.
For this airbrush work, I used my Creos PS-771. After carefully masking the passe-partout, I went back over the frame with black and then added some subtle highlights using AK Interactive Brass from the 3rd Generation range with a drybrush technique.
Finally, I carefully cut the printed image to size with a scalpel and glued it into the frame.
And honestly, I really like how this little detail turned out. It might barely be visible once the entire statue is assembled, but that’s exactly what makes it special to me. It’s a small Easter egg that doesn’t need to scream for attention—it’s simply there for anyone who takes the time to look closely.
Sometimes it’s these tiny, almost hidden details that make a collectible feel like it has its own story.
I hope you like it as much as I do!
That’s it for this week’s update!
I’ll see you all next week, and as always, if you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments.
Peace out!

And this is exactly the kind of completely unnecessary detail I absolutely love. 😂 Nobody might ever notice it – but YOU know it’s there. The Jean & Cyclops picture is such a cool little Easter egg!
