Update #4 – Let’s Add Some Colors

Hello friends and community!

This week, it was finally time to add some color to the project.

For all the airbrush work on the base, I used my IWATA Kustom CS. It has become my absolute favorite workhorse airbrush because of its versatility and ease of use. It allows me to spray both fine details and larger surfaces comfortably, while still holding enough paint to work efficiently without constantly refilling the cup.

We started by carefully masking off the outer edge of the base to keep it clean and protected during the painting process. Once everything was properly masked, I began building up the color variation on the floor using Kaleido Acrylic K018 Brown. With this color, I sprayed shadows, stains, and irregular tonal variations across the surface to create a more natural and realistic foundation.

After establishing the darker areas, I switched to Kaleido Acrylic K045 Buff and sprayed lighter highlights into selected sections. This helped create more contrast and visual interest while giving the floor a worn and aged appearance.

Once I was happy with the overall color variation, I covered the entire floor section with Kaleido Acrylic Translucent Clear Amber. This unified all the previous layers and gave the wood a much richer and warmer tone.

After the airbrush work was completed, I moved over to my painting station, where I have my Redgrass R9 lamp. Good lighting is absolutely essential at this stage, especially when working with subtle color transitions and weathering effects.

From there, I continued working with AK Interactive Inks and several different tones, including Black, Wood Brown, Grim Brown, Mud Brown, Light Brown, and Decomposed Flesh. I started by deepening all the recesses and panel lines with black ink before gradually building up richer brown tones throughout the surface.

The process from there was very much a back-and-forth workflow. Applying washes, adding drybrush highlights, reinforcing shadows, and constantly adjusting tones with different colors until the floor started to develop the depth and character I was looking for. It is one of those stages where patience really pays off, as every layer contributes a little more realism and texture.

To finish everything off, I sealed the entire piece with a matte clear coat to protect the work and create a consistent finish before moving on to the next stages of the project.

For the first time, the base is finally starting to come to life, and it’s exciting to see the project slowly transform from a collection of printed parts into an actual collectible piece.

That’s it for this week’s update!

I’ll see you all next week, and as always, if you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments.

Peace out!

Finally some color! 😁 Love how much depth you got into that floor without making it look overdone. It already looks properly aged and used rather than freshly painted resin. 👌
