Ordnance Texturing & Weathering
Ordance prepping and build: the 1,000lb bomb and drop tank. To replicate a rough cast-iron casing on the bomb, I stippled on a heavy coat of Mr. Finishing Surfacer 500 with a brush, letting it cure before sanding it back . For the drop tank, I wanted to simulate heavy flight deck wear, so I carefully used a Dremel to grind a physical dent into the lower casing. To keep it from looking like a sharp plastic gouge, I sanded the rim and brushed Tamiya Extra Thin cement over the area to chemically melt and smooth the edges into a realistic, soft sheet metal crease. After laying down the AK Real Colors base coats, I went in with heavy oil washes and streaking to age the ordnance and completely lock in that gritty Pacific theater look.
