GrandpaMark's Hobbies official GWCC AMT 67 Mustang GT Fastback "Pony Up" Final Submission

I had so much fun with this contest.

The body is painted in Matt Black primer. Then two coats of Gunmetal. Then 4 coats of Clear Red. Then I masked off the hood and stripes. I sprayed them with a coat of Aluminum. Then Pearl White. I let that all sit for 4 days. Then I wet sanded from 4000 to 7000 followed by fine and finish polish. I used matt black in the interior with silver and Fusion Firm chrome. I flocked the carpet and used Clear black to paint the front window window shade. The engine is painted in Mecha paints the blue. The chassis was painted in a red with a drop of orange. There are 12 LEDs run by a CR2032 battery hidden in the trunk. The rims and tires are 3D printed. Almost all of the paint was Gaahleri Kaleido paints. I'm saying almost all because I think I use a drop of Tamiya paint to paint the top of the master cylinder. I hope everyone enjoyed this build as much as I do. Thank you Jarome and Emily for talking me into doing this.

Getting close now

Getting close now. I got the tail lights lit. Ended up using 6 LEDs for them to make them look right, so that added to the mess in the trunk. But we were able to get it looking neat. The window got sprayed so it now has a sun shade. The car is now on it's feet, but still needs a little work. But after a long weekend in the shop I had to stop what I was doing and clean the mess up. LOL So far I really like this kit and almost everything has gone as planned.

Light Em Up

Last evening and today I worked on getting the lights lit. They are all in and running. I still have to drop the lenses in the front headlights, but I'm super happy with how they came out. I ended up using 12 LEDs in totay. I wasn't planning on 6 for the tail lights, but after messing around for a while I decided it needed them. Now it's time to clean up the shop. Tomorrow I want to try something on the front glass.

Lots to cover in this video.  The interior is done, the chassis looks GREAT, and the body is in chrome.  So, kick off those shoes, grab a snack and an ice-cold pop, and enjoy the shoe.

Just had to weather the bottom a little bit.

So I got the bottom painted and. . . well, I just couldn't not weather it. So I didn't get a whole lot done other than that. All in all I am very happy I decided to weather it.

The body is shiny, the engine is ready to start, the interior is sweet, and the chassis is banging.

Not bad for a holiday weekend with a huge storm tucked in.  So grab an ice cold sodi pop and some Cheese puffs and enjoy the video.

Getting the engine ready for some serious detailing, and a little brush painting

I like to get my engines to this point before I dive into detailing them. I had some extra time so I brushed on the first coat of aluminium on the dash and doors. Tomorrow will be the seats and Thursday will be time to polish the body.

Clear coats, Primer, and decals.

Today I chromed the rims (using appropriate PPE) Next, I put the kit's decals on the side of the car. Then I put 4 coats of clear over the body, hood, and trunk. In between coats of clear I used Bright Blue to paint the engine, oil pan, and water pump.

Lots done.

I spent 4 hours cleaning mold lines and prepping for primer. I also got my mask for the hood figured out and ready to paint.

Biography

My name is Mark, but everyone knows me as GrandpaMark from GrandpaMark's Hobbies.

I live just outside Youngstown Ohio, and other than the time I served in the Navy I lived here all my life.

I've been building models almost almost as long as I can remember with my first kit being the Mod Squad van. From there I've mostly stayed with cars and trucks, but for a while I got into building ships. Not too long after I got back into building cars I started the YouTube page GrandpaMark's Hobbies where I make highlight videos on what I am building. I also started a Facebook Group page called GrandpaMark's Hobbies and Lennis Shultz's group page.

My career is winding down, and soon I hope to be able to do this almost full time.
