Accident! New Cowling
In a very early update I have shown that I thinned the cowling inside. My kit was of the first generation of the kit with an outside seam in the middle of the cowling, which needs to be sand down too.
During the handling it happened in August - I broke the cowling, I tried to glue it, but after priming it broke again. It was too thin to be stable.
I would like to say a huge Thank you to Eduard! An "emergency ticket" explaining my situation - and they quickly sent me a new cowling, also of the new kit generation (that is a common sprue on all Camel variants) with a modified tool: no more a seam on outside! and wished me luck on the contest. What a fantastic support!
Teaser Pic 1 The finished cowling as the result of this update.
Pic 2 The new cowling, I need again remove material on inside to make the engine fit. This time, not with double, but with triple care!
Pic 3 No seam on outside, so no loss of material with sanding here.
Pic 4 Primed white and painted orange yellow.
Pic 5 Another - you guess it! - set of masks, where the plotter was definitely on its limit, was used ....
Pic 6 ... to paint the eyes on both sides.
Pic 7 On the inside I painted it somehow raw in alu shades, followed by an oil wash.
See teaser pic 1 The printed decals, shown earlier, are applied too. Between the words you can see the etched type plate from the PART set.
Mythological Purpose:
In Egyptian lore, Horus took the form of a winged sun disk to blindingly strike down the minions of the evil god Set. Colonel Ruston felt this perfectly matched the fierce, aggressive combat nature of the Sopwith Camel. The eyes on the nose symbolized a "magical gaze" meant to daze, blind, and confuse adversaries.
I have one remaining build update.

@cristiancarlone Thank you! As you can see in the teaser for the next update, the cowling is now so thin that the rotary engine can rotate freely.

It’s no wonder Eduard was happy to help. They probably see you building one of there kits as an honour. Very impressive work on those eyes.

Great support from Eduard! This is how other manufacturers should support their customers, too. Oh, and one more thing: Outstanding craftsmanship.

@runway07r25l Thank you! Eduard has a helpful support system. If they have the parts or decals available they can help, but this could not be the case with older kits.
