Metamorphosis, week 7, ep. 43 - Do over test 1 - What do you think?
Ciao! The do over has begun.
I’m using clay again spreading it much more on the edges to thin it to a smooth and blending finish.
Then i use a piece of the bark I cut from the side of the base and use it to imprint the actual bark texture on the clay.
During the process some pieces of bark remained trapped in the clay. I keep them there for additional roughness.
I did less than half to see how it will look once the clay dries. What do you think? To my eyes it looks a lot better, more natural and better blended, but I’m not objective, so I leave it to this amazing community to judge.

MechaPainter96 days agoLooks way better. Some matte coats will really seal it.

@mechapainter, thank you again so much for your earlier comments identifying the problems with the initial layer! In the photos is depicted the “raw” clay layer. It will be painted, weathered and then sealed with matt varnish. I still ned to do the second half of the new layer though.

@gekoch , that’s an interesting point of view. It’s intriguing….. are you suggesting insects because they normally are found on barks? Thank you for the comment!
