More colors on the wings
I posted already an update this week, but there are so many things in front of me, that I have to show another solved task!
Please don't forget to open the photos in bigger format with click on the right [ ] !
Teaser pic 1 The result of this update. I'm really happy about it!
Pic 2 After more masking and painting sessions the Behudet colors are applied. Here the upper side of the wings. Some fine white lines between the colors are not a problem.
Pic 3 And here you can see the lower surfaces.
Pic 4 With a modification of the drawings I let the cutter produce a new set of masks and applied those on both sides of the wings, again after reduction of the tackiness.
Pic 5 The next step was spraying the fine lines with MRP NATO Black, which is a "broken" black.
Pic 6 Many used masks that look like works of art in their own right.
Pic 7 I also applied the same NATO Black paint to the top of a transparent decal A4 sheet. After it dried, I loaded the sheet into the cutting plotter and had it cut into 0.5 mm wide strips. I hope you can see it.
Pic 8 Then I tried to apply pieces of the black decal stripes on to one wing. It works great, but needs a good while! I thought masking off such long, thin lines would be more of a challenge. I'm happy with this first try.
See first/teaser photo for the upper sides of the wings after securing the decal stripes with a clear coat. That was a lot of work!
Pic 9 And here you can see the lower sides which are also done.
Pic 10 A close-up view shows that masking off the strips wouldn't have been easy either. I also had to proceed carefully with the decal strips.
As you can guess from the little masks still applied the wings are not ready yet. But this was a huge step towards the finish line!

Berthold Tacke57 days agoWhat an outstanding paintjob! This model will be easy to be recognised when being part at show contest. Would really like to see this beauty at Euro Model Expo Evo 2027 contest.

@dutchdavemodelbench Thank you! Every time I lifted the masks, I hoped I wouldn't be in for a nasty surprise—which is why I'm all the more pleased with the result.

Bughunter80 days ago@javiercalvojccreaciones3d Thanks! Yes, this takes a little while. It was also some effort to design the masks. So once I'm done with it the probability is high that commercial decals become available. 😅

Bughunter79 days ago@ejbscaleart Thank you very much! I had hoped to recreate the look of the original, and now I'm satisfied.

Bughunter79 days ago@arvinquezada Thanks! This cool design was the reason I'd put it on my long-term to-do list—now was the perfect time to tackle it!
