Project Summary

I am very fond of the works of miniature maker Andrew Cairns from New Zealand. In an age of digital creations, he still hand sculpts/models his figures. I liken his style as very much expressionist/impressionist as opposed to realism. His kits present a challenge to paint as they are not about precise detail , rather suggested features and emotions. This kit depicts the Yorkist troops in the battle of Towton in 75mm.

The Battle of Towton took place on 29 March 1461 during the Wars of the Roses, near Towton in North Yorkshire. Yorkist forces decisively defeated Lancastrian supporters of Henry VI, securing the English throne for Edward IV. Fought for ten hours between an estimated 50,000 soldiers from both sides in a snowstorm on Palm Sunday, it was "probably the largest and bloodiest battle on English soil".[wikipedia]

Beginining final assembly

Starting final assembly. Murphey strikes, pieces that dry fit well, no longer do. More digging/gouging the base, turning positioning any two pieces into a blacksmith puzzle. Using vallejo white putty to fill gaps between base and feet. Not any issue as it will be covered by more snow later. Breaking and fixing things bowstrings, bows, ugh. repaint any damage from positioning. Using tamiya metal primer liquid to prime brass rod/banner pole.

Biography

3 years ago, I returned to the hobby after 40 years of life happening. The last 3 years have been a crash course on new paints, technology, tools, level of detail, techniques, and available subject matter. I am a figure painter largely focused on historical subjects prior to WW2. I also like fantasy and scifi figures. I may do some vehicals, only as a prop for the figure storytelling. I work with resin cast/3d printed , metal and plastic. I work on figures from 1/35th through 1/12th. I like the expanded choices in the 60-90mm range, because of limits of my vision and hand control. I like vignettes and dioramas. I am also getting back into modifying and sculpting figure to tell a story. What I am most thrilled about is the varieties of dynamic poses and facial expressions in modern figure kits
