Final Update - "Wing of Horus" Camel in 1:48
After three months of heavy work with a huge amount of masking and a lot of scratch work, I can present the final update to show the finished "Wings of Horus" Camel. Without my cutting plotter (and the vector graphics software Inkscape), this project would not have been possible.
The original plane
The ‘Camel’ aircraft was painted in this colourful scheme to celebrate the 1,000th aircraft produced by Roston & Proctor in Lincoln on 1 February 1918. As it was a brand-new biplane and had been spruced up for the celebration (all the photos show a spotlessly clean plane), I decided against adding weathering; there is just a little oil around the engine from its brief maiden flight.
The model
A 1:48 kit made by Eduard and many accessories were used. I added a lot of scratched details as well: real wooden airscrew, new metal struts, new metal+wood undercarriage and tail skid, etc. All the details of the fully equipped cockpit and more was shown in the extensive build log.
The photos
A light tent was used to take the required photos.
The outdoor photos were taken with two tripods, without using AI!
Thank you very much, and a big thank you to everyone who has followed my build, ‘liked’ it and left comments. It was a pleasure to be part of this contest. I hope that will not be the last one of its kind.
Good luck to all!

Absolutely stunning!! I showed my wife the photos taken outside and she thought it was a real aircraft. The pinnacle of modelling art.

Doug Mulle41 days agoYes, this is just too beautiful to weather, and since it's of a special plane at a certain time, it's the perfect excuse!

@dougmulle Thanks! After the celebration (it was impressive to see how many women were involved in building these planes!), it was sent to the front in France. On 6th March it was sent back from France by the RFC as “not suitable for fighting purposes”. It was used to promote war bonds, for example, it was displayed on Red Cross Day, and it is thought that it was later used in a training unit.

A very impressive model of the Camel, with an outstanding paint job and an incredible wealth of fine details – good luck!

@runway07r25l Thank you soo much! In less than a month, you’ll have the chance to see the model for yourself in Ried im Innkreis, Austria – I hope you’ll be able to make it this year.

@gekoch Thank you! It’s a bit tricky to find the right position for the camera and the model. I’ve brought some reference images with me, which are a real help in making it look realistic.
