Scratchbuild Podracer Cockpit Update
The cockpit is slowly starting to come to life.
This stage of the build has been focused on expanding the pilot area with additional structures, technical details, and scratchbuilt components. My goal is to create a cockpit that feels functional and believable—not overloaded, but designed as if every single part has a purpose.
One deliberate design choice is the open cockpit. Rather than enclosing the pilot completely, I want to keep the engineering visible, giving the final racer a more aggressive and distinctive character while showcasing the mechanical complexity of the build.
The area behind the seat is also beginning to take shape. Additional armor panels, structural elements, and custom-built details are adding more depth and personality to the rear section of the cockpit. Many surfaces are intentionally left unfinished, as more layers and details will be added in the upcoming stages.
As with the entire project, every component is being built from styrene sheet, rods, profiles, and numerous handmade scratchbuilt parts. Each new piece brings the Podracer one step closer to the vision of a believable studio-scale model.
There is still a long road ahead, but that’s exactly what makes scratchbuilding so rewarding—the journey of creating something unique, one piece at a time.
