The Work You Never See Makes All the Difference

Today I'm sharing one of the least glamorous, yet most important parts of the entire process.

While Battle Cat is now fully post-processed and ready for priming, the base is starting its own transformation. Since it was printed in FDM filament rather than resin, it requires a completely different finishing process.

In this video, I show the technique I use to remove the visible layer lines by applying a one-part filler thinned with acetone. This allows me to fill the print lines and achieve a much smoother surface before priming.

Once that's done, it's time to apply a coat of black primer to the entire piece, bringing He-Man, Battle Cat, and the base together for the first time and preparing everything for the painting stage.

Every detail matters, because a great paint job begins long before the first coat of color.

@bughunter You’re welcome! We’re all here to learn from each other… I’ve been painting for 40 years, and I still learn something new about it almost every day. 😉🤘

@GunplaForJoy Thank you! Absolutely! It's a piece that brings back childhood memories for so many of us who grew up in the '70s, '80s, and '90s. I hope it lives up to those memories!

@Fire Lily 022 I'm really glad I could help! 😊 This technique is especially effective on the top surfaces of FDM prints, where the layer lines are most visible. Along the vertical axis, the layer lines tend to hide themselves much better, so they usually need much less work. I hope you find it useful!
