Little update on the Wood PLA Tests

As I was putting the final touches on the model (so many final touches...) I started printing the base to make sure I had the correct measurements. As I am a visual person, I prefer to see it in RL because apparently I cannot envision measurements all that well.

It all started with a test of the wood filament, after 2 fails or was it 3? I turned to regular PLA because I still had to make sure that I had the correct size (as the rest of the model would more or less balance on that). As you can see, I decided that 1.5", 37 mm, was too thick for the base and went down to 20mm. The difference was night and day, and I just made the final adjustment on that so I can print the final base with the wood modifier.

While I love the look of the wood PLA (I didn't even get to test the sanding and staining of it) I will have to shelve the material for a different project. I can't keep fighting time.

So onward with the rest of the project.

OMG : ( I'm pretty sure you're already an expert and that things just happen in the 3D printing world 😄 But once I had an issue with a specific filament, and I gave ChatGPT as much information as I could: the filament I was using, my printer, my slicer, everything. I also explained how I was getting failed prints, and after a few tries and asking for different settings and adjustments, the prints came out fine. I'm not sure exactly what happened here, as it could be anything, but if you think changing the settings or making some adjustments might help, ChatGPT can usually be pretty useful in these cases :D

@reza Thanks for the advice. Will consider for my experimentation phase after the contest is over.

Many times we get too attached to the idea we have in our minds, but sometimes we just have to find solutions and move forward. How did the print turn out in the end? 👌

@javiercalvojccreaciones3d You are so right! I did have to let it go. I am in the process of printing the second part, which I have never printed to scale. Soas of right now, the first piece (which I printed in both regular PLA and Matte PLA) worked perfect with the Regular PLA (wrong color) and worked with the brown matte PLA but that one warped, had to fix and got a crack so I guess I'm gonna need to see which piece I use at the end. Regardless I'm going to need to prime and paint whichever piece seems more stable.

Good decision 👍 It would be pity if you would not be able to finish it in time. I guess we will not get a "second chance week" or so. I know how you feel, because I'm under time pressure, too!

@bughunter Yeah, at some point, experimentation will have to wait for leisure time.

@powercube THanks, Hopefully the final version of the base looks just as good as the tests :D

@make3dprint Sonaba tan linda la idea de ponerle un "stain" y que se viera asi como madera... hasta que llego la realidad y nope! Definitivamente por ahora se quedara como un experimento para luego :D

@arvinquezada I will, when I'm done w all the other printing. If I end up having time at the end, I may reprint and swap the base, but for now, clock is ticking!
