Light at the end of the tunnel.

22 August 2026

Tantalizingly close to completion. The rigging is done! One thing about this hobby of ours – it teaches you patience. The multitude of braces on this Camel took me the best part of two days, and I can see flaws, but it is DONE!

Now it’s a matter of tidying up, patching paint, all the small things that I left till last. There is light at the end of this plastic tunnel!

I’m not an expert on WWI airplanes, but your rigging looks great and the whole Camel is splendid! Bravo!

Biography

I was born in 1955 in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe), and my passion for modelling began at age seven with an Airfix Albatros D.Va. I was instantly hooked; as a boy, I even sold old socks and handkerchiefs to fund my growing collection. By the time I finished school, I had around 140 models filling the house.

My background as a draughtsman and artist, combined with my National Service in the Rhodesian Air Force during the late 1970s, heavily influences my work today. I naturally gravitate toward the historical aircraft and military vehicles I grew to know so well.

Though marriage and life paused the hobby for a time, I returned to it twelve years ago. Today, I am an active member of Zwartkop Scale Modellers. Scratch-building from plans and kit-bashing are my absolute favourite aspects of the craft—in fact, I don't think I have ever built a model straight out of the box! I view these creative talents as gifts from God, and I love blending my passions for modelling, aviation art, and writing.
