July 15, 2026. Over the last few days, I've made some really satisfying progress on the workbench. As I mentioned in my last post, my main K2 needed replacement parts after my initial detailing experiments on the turret cheek and smoke grenade launchers didn't go as planned. To fix it, I turned to the donor K2. I secured the plastic section with tape to keep it steady, gently scribed a guideline using a hobby knife, then carefully cut along the scored line with a fine craft saw. The donor extraction was a complete success! After grafting the new piece in place, the turret cheek and smoke grenade launchers were fully rebuilt. I then used 0.2 mm lead wire to recreate the cap-retaining cables, matching the opposite side.

To finish the build, I added the final details and the aftermarket brass antennas, the metal gun barrel, and the resin stowage bag tucked into the turret basket. With that, the construction phase is officially complete! I've mounted the sub-assemblies on painting clips and applied a fresh coat of Tamiya Surface Primer. Currently, I need to wait for the primer to do its thing before I can move to the next stage. 🎨⏳️
